Water is without a doubt our most powerful resource in nature. But access to it is scarce for the Tshibombo Tshimuangi community in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Currently, individuals must make multiple trips to the nearest clean water source which is several kilometers away from their homes — and they do this every single day.

Our Water for Life fundraising campaign can change that.

By drilling up to two water wells, clean water will be available for both today’s community and future generations. Not only will these wells be used to meet an abundance of daily needs, but they will provide potable water for the Kalala Muzeu Health Center — a clinic that serves a population of 50,000.

Leja Bulela needs a total of $60,000-$100,000 to provide vital access to water. Funds will enable us to:

  • Hire a local labor force as well as international consultants for drilling, construction and water delivery

  • Pay for necessary materials for drilling and pumping water (which, ideally, are sourced locally to Tshibombo Tshimuangi)

  • Pay for any necessary overseas shipping costs for equipment, materials and customs fees

  • Construct underground, or above-ground, water tanks that preserve water

  • Ensure proper maintenance and sustainability of the well

  • Cover the costs of travel and transport for consultants and personnel.

Leja Bulela was founded in 1993 to support internally displaced persons (refoulés) in Tshibomo Tshimuangi and the Kasai-Oriental Province. An estimated 500,000 Kasai natives were forced from their homeland in the early 1990s. Collectively, we support refoulés with initiatives that promote adequate healthcare, educational opportunities, agricultural opportunities, and a chance at a brighter future.

Construction of water wells can begin in early 2023 if we raise $30,000 by December 2022.

Water is powerful, and we believe the hearts of people can be just as powerful. What can you do to support our Water for Life campaign?

  • Give. All donations are welcome, and no amount is too small.

  • Connect. Send an email to your family and friends, and see if your employer matches charitable donations to double your impact.

  • Share. Tell others about this life-saving project in person and online.

You’ve already made extraordinary things happen for the Tshibombo Tshimuangi community, and we’re asking you to help us continue our mission. Together, we can secure the Tshibombo Tshimuangi community’s future. Leja bulela — show that you care.
